Game Rules – “Brailing”
Thank you for choosing “Brailing.” We wish you unforgettable experiences. These text-based rules are intended for the sighted. The audio rules for the blind can be found at the bottom of this page.
Game Elements:
Game board.
114 puzzle-shaped letter blocks (in a black pouch).
85 point calculation blocks (in a white pouch).
4 eye masks.
How to Set Up the Game:
Place the game board in a comfortable position for all players.
Put the black pouch with the letter blocks in a place accessible to everyone.
Scatter the point blocks near the board or leave them inside the pouch.
For sighted players, we introduce the challenge called “Discover the Hidden Sense.” Put on the eye masks and play according to the rules below.
Game Goal:
The goal of the game is to form words on the board from randomly received letters, connecting them in a crossword-style. However, the most important goal is to enjoy togetherness, regardless of visual abilities.
Game Start:
The game is suitable for a group of 2-6 players.
Each player draws 7 random letter blocks from the black pouch.
Any player can start the game.
Game Play:
Players take turns in a clockwise direction.
During their turn, a player can perform the following actions:
: Words can be placed left to right or top to bottom. Words can be any part of speech and any form. It is recommended to start the first word in the middle of the board. New words must connect with the existing ones, as in a crossword. The blank block functions as a space. Separate words must be divided by a whole row or a blank block. Words must be completed fully; you cannot leave part of a word on the board.
: You can add one or more letters to an existing word to create a new word.
Example: If the word “CAT” is on the board, you can add “S” to form “CATS” (a new word).
: If the current letters are unsuitable, you have two options:
Change all 7 blocks to new ones, skipping your turn. This action can only be done at the start of your turn.Change only one letter without skipping your turn.
To change blocks: first inform the other players if you’re changing one or all blocks. Then, set aside the blocks you want to change and draw new ones from the pouch without looking. Afterward, return the old blocks to the pouch.
You can perform multiple actions in one turn, e.g., change one letter, form a new word, and extend an existing word.
After each turn, players draw new letter blocks from the pouch so that they have 7 blocks in front of them.
Scoring:
Points for words: Each letter is worth 1 point.
Example: The four-letter word “CAT” is worth four points.
If you add a letter(s) to an existing word, the points are calculated for the entire new word.
Example: If “CAT” is on the board and you add “S,” you get 5 points for “CATS.”
After each turn, the player receives the points they accumulated during that turn.
End of the Game:
The game ends when:
There are no more letters in the pouch, or
No player can make a move, or
All players unanimously decide to end the game.
Tips and Additional Rules:
Use a dictionary to check disputed words.
One of the sighted players can be a helper:
Winner:
Congratulations to the player who collects the most points, but the true winners are those who enjoyed the togetherness, grew closer, got to know each other better, and broke down the barriers between the blind and the sighted.
We also want to specially congratulate those who accepted the challenge “Discover the Hidden Sense.” You showed your courage, and today you unlocked the potential of a new sense.
